For Immediate Release
June 6, 2007

Zoé Dance kicks off it’s 5th anniversary season with live music, video excerpts from their recent tour to Chile and a showing of a work in progress.

Cambridge, MA – Zoé Dance will hold a fundraiser to support a recent invitation to perform in an international dance festival produced by the Instituto Cultural de Las Condes in Santiago, Chile in February of 2008. The fundraiser will be held in the Julie Ince Thompson Theatre at the Dance Complex, Friday, July 13 at 7:30. Suggested donation is $25.

In the upcoming fundraiser and informal performance Zoé Dance will share video excerpts of works past, video footage of the tour to Chile, live music by musician Jordan Carp, and a showing of Zoé’s latest work in progress (choreography by Callie Chapman Korn) Crisalida : Sin Salida. The work in progress will be presented at the international dance festival in Santiago as well as in the Boston area during the Spring of 2008.

This past January (2007) Zoé Dance was presented by the Instituto Cultural de Las Condes receiving widespread publicity in the national newspaper ‘El Mercurio’ several times, ‘La Segunda’ and other national and local publications. Zoé Dance performed to sold out audiences and was well received by the community of Las Condes in Santiago, Chile. The Instituto Cultural de Las Condes has since invited Zoé Dance to perform February, 2008 in an international dance festival.

While in Santiago, Zoé Dance also taught a master class to “Fantasia Folklorica Chileana”, an organization that provides Chilean youth with classes and performances of Chilean folkloric dance. The master class was the first time many of the children had experienced the genre of modern dance. The children of “Fantasia Folklorica Chileana” were invited at no charge to attend Zoe’s concert.

Crisalida : Sin Salida (Spanish, meaning: ‘Chrysalis : No Exit’) is a one-hour exploration of the idea that once something is experienced, although one can try to replicate it, it can never be experienced again. Through a more theatrically-based structure, Crisalida’s cast consists of dancers/movers from various backgrounds including: Emily Beattie, Sarah (Ackley) Turner, Joe Burgio, Catherine Murcek and Callie Chapman Korn. A sense of constant transformation is played out with Chinese lanterns, 100 feet of bungee cord, a plastic bubble and of course the dancers themselves. The work in progress will show approximately 25 minute excerpt of Crisalida.
